Twitter

Twitter is a very strong social media platform and is considered one of the top sites. It is a place for a live discussion and meant to spread ideas across the world. Usually there is a live and in the moment back and forth between multiple people on the platform. People from one part of the world can find out about something happening at that exact moment that it is happening through Twitter. A Twitter discussion is different than a Blackboard discussion. Twitter is a live discussion that gives you notifications when someone responds to your post. On Blackboard you can make a post and someone can comment and reply to it but you don't get a notification that someone has done that and it is not a live conversation. You can be notified when a tweet has been made about a certain topic or by a certain person but you cannot be given these notifications on Blackboard. Also on Twitter you are limited to 140 characters and now recently most people can make 280 character posts, but on Blackboard you are not limited to the length of the post. In class discussions are also comparable to Twitter discussions. They are both considered live and in the moment discussions but are also different. Twitter discussions are limited in the sense that there is a limit to the length of a tweet but an in class discussion does not have any limits. Someone can make their point by using as many words as they want since it's an in person conversation. But when using Twitter people can use research and link to articles before responding to someone else's post, when you're having an in class discussion you cannot do research right then and there before making your point, you just have to go with whatever knowledge you have. Twitter is a very interactive website that helps share all different people's opinions and is a great way to continue the conversation outside the classroom and even further than a Blackboard discussion.
